The Mindful Mind

Welcome… I’m Amanda Dounis, and I’m really glad you’re here.

I’m a Psychotherapist, Clinical Hypnotherapist, Counsellor, NLP Master Practitioner, and EMDR Practitioner, and over the years I’ve worked with children, adolescents, and adults who experience challenges such as anxiety, overthinking, emotional overwhelm, self-doubt, and patterns that can feel difficult to shift, even when they understand what they would like to change.

And across all of this work, something becomes very clear.

People are not struggling because something is wrong with them, and they are not struggling because they lack strength or capability, but rather because they have never been shown how their mind actually works, and more importantly, how to work with it in a way that supports them.

The mind is constantly active.

It is thinking, analysing, predicting, remembering, comparing, and reacting, often at a speed that makes it feel as though there is no separation between what happens and how you respond.

And because of this, many people experience their thoughts and emotions as something that is happening to them, rather than something they can observe and influence.

This is what we refer to as autopilot.

Autopilot is not a problem in itself.

It is a natural and necessary function of the brain that allows you to operate efficiently and respond quickly in familiar situations.

However, autopilot does not distinguish between helpful and unhelpful patterns.

It simply repeats what has been learned.

So if patterns such as overthinking, emotional reactivity, self-doubt, or avoidance have been learned over time, autopilot will continue to reinforce those patterns unless something begins to interrupt that process.

And that something is awareness.

Because when awareness begins, something shifts.

You begin to notice what is happening rather than being fully inside it.

You begin to create space where there once felt like there was none.

And within that space, you begin to have choice.

This course is designed to help you develop that awareness.

Not by forcing change, and not by trying to control your mind, but by learning how to observe your thoughts, your emotions, and your reactions in a different way.

Because as you begin to notice more … you begin to change more. https://www.selfactualisedlearning.com/space/mindful-mind
